This Art Deco pocket watch was crafted by the famed Cartier. Housed in an 18K gold case, the square-faced timepiece boasts a sleek design. The watch's face, revealed by pressing the knob at its apex, tells the time with black Roman numerals and cobalt blue hands. Adding further interest, the timepiece bears the inscription acte mistere ("mysterious act") on its front, while the reverse bears an intricate depiction of a crest along with the further Latin inscription Deo fidatur, or "He trusts in God."
The Cartier tradition of clock and watchmaking extends almost as far back as the founding of the company in 1898. Thereafter, Cartier's clocks and watches were manufactured with an emphasis on technical perfection, fashionable aesthetics and originality. At first, a secondary activity, Cartier’s definitive approach to l’horlogerie quickly became a point of prestige for this famed company.
